Rebecca (Beck) Mitchell is a developmental paediatrician and clinician-researcher. Clinically, Beck is involved in the assessment, diagnosis and management of children with presentations including autism, intellectual disability, ADHD, language difficulties, learning difficulties and challenging behaviours. Beck graduated from Monash University with honours and trained at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne, undertaking advanced training in developmental-behavioural paediatrics. Beck worked as a consultant with the Department of Neurodevelopment and Disability at the RCH and completed a PhD with the University of Melbourne, where she received the Leslie Eric Paddle Scholarship in Neurology, The Viola Edith Bequest and the Galli Trust Scholarship. Her PhD, in the field of child development, investigated the autism phenotype and neurobiological pathways to developmental difficulties in children with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).
Beck is a senior research fellow at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and honorary fellow at the University of Melbourne. Her research investigates developmental phenotypes and biological pathways to developmental difficulties in neurogenetic conditions, including TSC and Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Beck also has an interest in evidence synthesis and has undertaken several systematic reviews with meta-analysis. She is a member of the Australasian Society for Developmental Paediatrics and the International Society for Autism Research.
